ABB 1SYN322322R8600 (SDA-40) is a fully automatic Star-Delta motor starter designed for controlled starting of 40 HP / 30 kW three-phase induction motors. It operates with a 400–415 V AC control coil, and product data lists a 400 V operating voltage. During motor startup, the starter initially connects the motor windings in star configuration, reducing the starting current compared with Direct-On-Line starting. After the preset transition period, it automatically switches the motor to delta configuration for normal operation. This arrangement is widely used where reduced electrical demand and lower mechanical stress during starting are desirable. Typical applications include large pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, conveyors, HVAC equipment, process machinery and industrial motor-control panels.
